The Reverend Ellen Guice Sims is a member of the Organizing Committee of Mobile Equality. She is a pastor of Open Table: A Community of Faith, the only United Church of Christ (UCC) congregation in southern Alabama. Open Table affirms the worth and dignity of every human being, explicitly welcoming lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender persons to assure them of full inclusion. Ellen’s faith commitments and theological training as well as personal relationships led her to become a straight ally to the LGBTQ community many years ago. She received a B.A. from Samford University, an M.A. from Texas Tech, and an M.Div. from the Methodist Theological School in Ohio. Ellen serves on the Board of Directors of the Mobile Area Interfaith Conference, is a former president of The Quest for Social Justice, and has been a leader in other efforts for justice in our community.
